The government of Uttar Pradesh recently launched a brand-new scheme for the welfare of women.  This scheme was recently launched by CM Yogi Adityanath. This scheme was named as Shakti Didi UP scheme which will be led by two female police officers. To protect women, Shakti Didi UP will educate them about the various important laws them, including those in the Indian Penal Code that prohibit child marriage, child labor, sexual harassment at work, dowry prohibition, protection from domestic violence, and major crimes against women’s dignity. They will learn how to use these laws to stop crimes against them as well.

Overview of Shakti Didi

Every Wednesday, a team of two female police officers, known as Shakti Didi UP would tour villages and cities to educate women about the government’s women-centric programs and their advantages, according to the Yogi Adityanath administration in Uttar Pradesh. Additionally, the female police officers will work with various agencies to find solutions to their issues. Along with Shakti Didi, BC Sakhi, Revenue Lekhpal, ANM, Asha worker, and other individuals designated for Gram and Nyaya Panchayat would be present during the visit. Urban areas will also have similar action strategies. This will help to implement the rules and regulations for the safety of the women.

Features of the scheme

  • This week, the U.P. Police’s Women and Child Security Organization (WCSO) division inaugurated the “Shakti Didi” program, which involves placing female inspectors and sub-inspectors in each district to educate young girls about women’s safety and cyber security.
  • The ‘Shakti Didi’ campaign will target youngsters in grades six through eight from more than 68 districts.
  • Over the following months, trained officers will visit schools to instruct pupils on subjects including proper contact, inappropriate touch, street safety, and cyber security.
  • In addition, WCSO has worked with Plan India, a national organization for children’s rights, to create informational and educational materials (IEC) for distribution in schools.
