The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has launched the Prime Minister Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Scheme. This scheme has been launched for a six-year period beginning in the fiscal year 2025–2026 to change India’s agricultural environment. The plan, which was unveiled in the Union Budget 2025–2026 will improve 100 districts that have low cropping intensity, low agricultural production, and restricted access to finance. Inspired by the Aspirational District Program of NITI Aayog, this is the first program that is only focused on agriculture and related fields. Objective of Prime Minister Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Scheme 

The primary objective of Prime Minister Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Scheme is to provide relief to the farmers who work really and are in need for financial help. Its goals are to increase agricultural production, encourage sustainable farming and diversity, fortify post-harvest storage. Also to provide better irrigation for crops and increase farmers’ access to financing. Higher productivity, value addition in agriculture and related industries, and the construction of local livelihoods are all main goals of this scheme. This scheme which will boost domestic output and lead to self-reliance (Atmanirbhar Bharat). This scheme will boost the economy of India and decrease the farmer debt also.

  • Financial assistance; The Prime Minister Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Scheme’s main goal is to support farmers who put in a lot of effort yet want financial assistance.

Period of Scheme

  • The ‘Prime Minister Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana’ was authorized by the Union Cabinet on Wednesday, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to cover 100 districts over a six-year period starting in 2025–26.

Implementation Process

The scheme will be implemented by the following methods: 

  • To implement the plan, 36 current programs from 11 Departments, additional State programs, and regional collaborations with the business sector will be combined. 
  • District, state, and national committees will be established to ensure efficient scheme development, execution, and oversight. Progressive farmers will also be part of the District Dhan Dhaanya Samiti, which will finalize a plan for district agriculture and related activities. 
  • The national objectives of crop diversification, soil health and water conservation, agricultural and related sector self-sufficiency, and the growth of natural and organic farming will all be reflected in the District Plans. 
  • Every month, a website will be used to track the scheme’s progress in each of the Dhan-Dhaanya districts using 117 key performance indicators. 

Identification of Districts

  • Three Important indicators—poor cropping intensity, low productivity, and reduced credit disbursement—will be used to identify 100 districts. 
  • Each state’s or UT’s number of districts will be determined by its operational holdings and Net Cropped Area share. But from each state, at least one district will be chosen.
