The objective of Kerala Patent Support Scheme
To promote entrepreneurship and creativity in the state, the government of Kerala has established the Kerala Patent Support Program, which will pay startup companies and students’ expenses for obtaining national and worldwide patents for their ideas. Benefits of Kerala Patent Support Scheme
- Offering Rs. 2 lakhs for each Indian patent and Rs. 10 lakhs for each international patent is the program’s first and most significant benefit.
- This service does not apply to the filing of provisional patents, patent searches, draughts, and filings, claim preparations, fast-track fees, claim prosecutions, or grant activities of prosecution against appellate authorities who have already rejected your claims for valid grounds. Both are not patent extensions.
- Copyrights, trademarks, or any other type of intellectual property right are not supported under the proposal; only patents are.
Eligibility Criteria
- The patent applications submitted only after November 9, 2015, will be taken into consideration.
- Student entrepreneurs can immediately apply for patent support through their IEDCs.
- It should be a legal entity registered with RoC as a Pvt Ltd or LLP for a startup. Innovators are not eligible for the schemes.
- The startup must have a DIPP and Udyog Aadhar, and it must register in Kerala within 10 years of the date of incorporation.
- Only those students who are pursuing academics will receive funding for their studies.
- The plan excludes assistance for patent extensions and legal actions against appellate authorities that have already rejected a patent holder’s claims.

- An original, signed, and sealed hard copy of the invoice and receipt for the consultation fees and IPR payments from IPR India.
- The verified copy of the original bank statement, which also includes the money transfer statement.
- A letter from the IEDC endorsing the proposal and attesting to its legitimacy.
- A succinct breakdown of the principles or claims that are patentable a copy of the certificate for the provisional patent, if any.
- In the case that a patent is secured, a patent certificate.
- Copies of the patent application, early publication, early review, modifications to the initial application, or an IPR receipt are all acceptable evidence.

- A letter from the college attesting that the applicant is currently enrolled there, signed by the principal or another person in a position of equivalent authority.

How to Apply for the Kerala Patent Support Scheme 2024
- The applicant first needs to visit the Patent Support Scheme website of Kerala Startup Mission to register.
- The homepage will appear on your screen, where you need to click on the Navigation Assistance option, then select Startup Option.
- After that you have to click on the Patient Reimbursement option.
- A new page will open on your screen, where you scroll down to click on the Apply Here option.
- Then, there will be a new page on your screen.
- A KSUM, Startup India, login screen will be presented to you.
- A form will display once you successfully log in a step, and you must fill it out completely.
- To finish the process, click the submit button.
