The flood management and border areas program is introduced for flood control and anti-erosion measures, for the period spanning 2021-2026. The total budget for the FMBAP 2024 is INR 4,100 crore. About Flood Management and Border Areas Programme

To solve problems like flood control, anti-erosion, drainage development and anti-sea erosion, etc, the Government of India has approved the continuation of the Flood Management and Border Areas Programme. The Union Cabinet of India has just approved the continuation of FMBAP till the year 2026. The pattern of funding to be followed is 90% (Centre): 10% (State) for Special Category States (8 North-Easter States and Hilly States of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and UT of Jammu & Kashmir) and 60% (Centre):40% (State) for General/ Non-Special Category States. The Scheme has the provision of incentivizing the States which implement flood plain zoning, recognized as an effective non-structural measure for flood management.

Objective of Flood Management and Border Areas Programme

The main objective of the Flood Management and Border Areas Programme Is to protect from the danger of flood in flood-affected areas of India. The Government of India has just approved the continuation of the FMBA Programme till 2026. Under the Flood Management Programme (FMP) component of FMBAP with an outlay of Rs. 2940 crore, central assistance will be provided to state governments for taking up critical works related to flood control, anti-erosion, drainage development and anti-sea erosion among others, the statement said. The total budget for the Flood Management and Border Areas Programme is INR 4,100 crore for a period of 5 years from 2021-22 to 2025-26.
